The Revenge Arc:
So Dinah (Leah's daughter) went to hang out with some local girls, just trying to make new friends fr fr. But Shechem, this local prince, saw her and... did something terrible. Then had the audacity to catch feelings afterward and was like "I actually love her" (toxic much?).
Shechem ran to his dad Hamor like "Father, I need you to arrange this marriage asap." Meanwhile, Jacob found out what happened to Dinah but stayed quiet until his sons came back from their farm grind.
Hamor showed up trying to smooth things over, right when Jacob's sons got back from the fields. When they heard what went down, they were HEATED. Like, absolutely furious that someone would violate their sister like that.
Hamor tried to negotiate: "Look, my son's down bad for your daughter. Let's make this right - we can join our families, share the land, trade together. It's a whole vibe."
Shechem was like "I'll pay whatever bride price you want, just let me marry her."
But Jacob's sons were already plotting their revenge. They said (cap alert 🧢): "Well... there's just one tiny problem. We can't let our sister marry someone who isn't circumcised. BUT if all your men get circumcised like us, then we can talk about marriage and becoming one big community."
Hamor and Shechem were like "bet" and went to convince their whole city: "These people seem chill, the land's big enough, plus we get their daughters AND their livestock if we do this one thing..."
So every guy in the city got circumcised (major oof).
Three days later, when all the men were still in pain, Simeon and Levi (Dinah's brothers) chose violence. They grabbed their swords and went full John Wick mode on the entire city. Not just Shechem and Hamor - ALL the men. Then they took Dinah back.
The rest of Jacob's sons joined in after and raided the whole city - took the livestock, the valuables, everything. They said it was payback for what happened to their sister.
Jacob was stressed: "Y'all really just made everyone in Canaan hate us. We don't have the numbers to fight them all - they're gonna pull up and delete our whole family!"
But Simeon and Levi clapped back: "So we were supposed to let him treat our sister like that and do nothing?"
And that's on protecting your sister, but maybe with too much violence! 😤✨
